   The 3rd set lasted almost as long as two preceding sets, but Kuerten [1] controlled this match throughout, he led 5:2* in the opener, 2:0* in the 2nd, and 4:1 in the 3rd having a few game points. Admittedly Canas [39] had a break point at 3:4, but he didn’t show any sings of belief he would turn the tables, losing almost all longer rallies. It was surprisingly easy win for the Brazilian given his two previous matches against players from the Canas level. # Six years later Canas will lose a final after the same scoreline.
