  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 28-23, 30-19 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    33 % Krajicek – 17 of 51
    16 % Ferreira – 8 of 49

Unexpected semifinal in a big event on clay because Krajicek could play his best tennis on fast surfaces (grass, carpet) while Ferreira on hardcourts. The Dutchman [25] broke to lead 4:2 in the opener, and Ferreira [11] lost his temper. He was questioning Krajicek’s serves a few times, throwing his racquet & spreading simple errors in baseline rallies. In the 2nd set, being visibly discouraged, he improved from *0:4 (deuce) to *3:5 (30/0) before losing the last four points with casual errors… One week earlier, on slower clay in Hamburg, Ferreira had defeated Krajicek 6-4, 6-3 in 79 minutes. The South African edged 4-3 their rivalry in the end. Born at the same time (Ferreira three months older), made a breakthrough in the same event (Australian Open ’92) and their careers were very similar with one big difference: Krajicek won a major, Ferreira never played a major final.

    Serve & volley: Krajicek 3/7, Ferreira 1/1
