Points won by each set: | 38-43, 47-45, 28-14, 27-16 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
24 % Murray – 29 of 120
10 % Gasquet – 14 of 138
Murray [2] led 5:2* in the opener, later on 5:3 (30-all), missed a dropshot at 5:4 (30/0) and surprisingly lost the set after the 12th game in which they exchanged points to clinch it. In the 2nd set almost the same story: Murray leads 5:2* and is two points away from the set, but faces 0/30 at 5-all. There is a tie-break, 3:1* for Gasquet and he has a winnable position to get another point given the quality of his backhand, but loses the point, the breaker 3/7 and the momentum shifts dramatically… Tough to say that Gasquet [12] could have advanced to the semifinals if he had won the second set because in the past Murray had rallied twice from 0-2 in their matches. During their best times, the Scot was always physically better prepared, his advantage in sets 3 & 4 was overwhelming. It seemed that Gasquet could play at his highest level just for two hours at the time as Murray took a lot of energy from the Frenchman tormenting him with constant dropshots for two long sets.
