    Points won by each set: | 29-17, 28-22, 26-24 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    50 % Becker – 38 of 75
    49 % Ivanisevic – 35 of 71

The last great week in Becker’s career, who was 29 at the time. “I felt good from the start, I returned well and I was getting my first serves in,” Becker [6] said. “I played amazing tennis; I didn’t make any mistakes. I enjoyed playing at home.” When they met two years before in the same Olympiahalle, Ivanisevic won 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Ivanisevic [4] didn’t get to ‘deuce’ in any of Becker’s 15 service games (98% points won when the 1st serve in!) in the final though. Becker finished the year 1996 with big results indoors, but in the first months of 1997 he lost the Top 10 status and for three years was unable to get his 50th title…

Becker’s route to the title (49th and the last one in his career):
    1 Jason Stoltenberg 6-3, 6-2
    Q Jakob Hlasek 6-4, 6-1 *
    S Tim Henman 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-1
    W Goran Ivanisevic 6-3, 6-4, 6-4

    * Hlasek [74] played last match of his career then, finished at age 32, in the first round he stunned 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 Pioline
