  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 28-17, 40-30 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    29 % Mecir – 15 of 51
    12 % Connors – 8 of 64

One-sided affair, but Connors [8] gave his all to produce another miracle comeback. He fell behind 2-6, 0:4 (break point) when the ball hit the net-cord being out of his reach and stayed on Mecir’s side. At 2:5 Jimbo saved a match point, but when Mecir was serving to win the match for the second time, he removed his cap and closed it out in four points… The Czechoslovak [13] was one of the smartest players in the 80s, he liked to play different tennis depending on the opponent’s style; against Connors, he was serving harder than usual and wasn’t interested in attacking the net at all. “I played heavy today, slow off the mark,” said Connors, 37, who hadn’t dropped a set prior to Saturday’s match. “I played damn good tennis the last five or six games of the match, but I didn’t start out that way. I wish I’d have been a little sharper.”

    Serve & volley: Mecir 0, Connors 2/4
