  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 35-32, 28-13 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    12 % Medvedev – 7 of 56
    13 % Sanchez – 7 of 52

Sanchez [33] reached the US Open ’91 quarterfinal, so he could expect to play a Mercedes Super 9 semifinal. It happened three years after his best result at majors. Even though Medvedev [8] was already considered one of the best clay-court players and probable French Open champion (it never happened), his routine victory wasn’t obvious because he had faced Sanchez twice before and both clay-court matches were balanced to the end (7-5, 4-6, 7-6 and 6-2, 4-6, 6-4). The 1st set confirmed Sanchez knew how to play against the powerful youngster. The Spaniard had a break point at 3:2 while at 4:5 he had a break point after saving a double set point. In the 2nd set Sanchez fell apart, losing the last 10 points of the match. One year later, Sanchez takes a revenge in Barcelona after one of the rarest scorelines (6-1, 1-6, 6-0).

    Serve & volley: Medvedev 1/2, Sanchez 0/5
