   Two Gstaad finals within six years, the champions on both occasions had beaten Wawrinka… The 2005 final is statistically deprived of 10 games (50%… aces, d.faults, b.point valid for the entire match); stats of the 2011 final deprived of the 1st set (service winners, aces, d.faults & b.points valid for the entire match).

   Wawrinka’s first final in pro career (18th main-level event). “It’s always tough to play a final, even if I have won three tournaments already this year,” Gaudio said. “I can definitely understand how it feels for [Wawrinka] to be playing his first final here in front of his home crowd.” Wawrinka [69] conceded he had been nervous: “It was always going to be difficult playing against someone like Gaudio and I was really struggling against some of the high-bouncing balls he was producing.” The 20-year-old Swiss led *4:2 (40/15) in the 2nd set, in the last game of the final he had two break points after saving a match point.

   Granollers [45] got the decisive break leading 3:2 in the final set. In the following game he saved a break point with a dropshot & converted his first match point two games later with a stretch-BH volley. It was the best year in Granollers’s career as far as singles is concerned. Later that year he triumphed in Valencia.
