   Their first meeting, played under the roof due to thunderstorm. Yzaga [86] advanced to the Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time, and totally disappointed. He managed to break Edberg’s [1] serve trailing 2:5 in the 2nd set, he also squandered a triple break point at 2:4 in the 3rd set to lose the last nine points. The Peruvian admitted that he was surprised with the quality of Edberg’s forehand… seeing him many times before on TV, he estimated that particular shot was much weaker. They would face each other two more times, both on clay in 1994 (Madrid, Hamburg), and Yzaga left the courts as a victor twice.
