  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 30-36, 35-30, 35-25, 35-35 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    27 % Djokovic – 37 of 136
    27 % Alcaraz – 34 of 125

The best man of the previous decade (also the best one in history), for the first time in Melbourne faced the potentially best player of the 20s. Djokovic [7] had an easy route to the quarterfinals, Alcaraz [3] too, therefore it seemed that the 1st set would be crucial given the age factor. Absolutely nothing like this happened. Admittedly Djokovic, who led 4:3* in the opener, dropped the last three games of the set signalising problems with his left thigh, but took a medical time-out, and from the inception of the 2nd set he regained his fantastic mobility. Some baseline exchanges were astonishing as usual between these two great players; Alcaraz was sporadically changing the pace with dropshots, perhaps he didn’t attack the net enough, he was also struggling with Djokovic’s second serves out-wide on deuce court, and the 37-year-old 10-time Aussie Open champion, triumphed after 3 hours 37 minutes, basically controlling sets 2-4 from start to finish.

    Serve & volley: Djokovic 4/5, Alcaraz 2/2
