  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 28-17, 27-15, 30-14 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    37 % Roddick – 23 of 61
    21 % Fish – 15 of 70

Such a one-sided quarterfinal between two good American friends absolutely couldn’t have been expected. Admittedly Roddick [7] had won their four successive meetings, but two of them required deciding tie-breaks, moreover Fish [42] didn’t lose too much energy in four rounds prior to the last eight, and nothing was physically bothering him. It seems like one of those rare days when one competitor plays slightly above his level (Roddick didn’t make any casual baseline errors) while the other one plays slightly below his own, and their ways fall apart. Fish changed his polo shirt before the 3rd set (from white to blue) but it didn’t change anything in his tennis, and the last set mirrored the previous two. Roddick’s fans might have thought he couldn’t have dreamed of a better quarter-final before the Federer meeting, yet in the semifinal Roddick was unexpectedly destroyed in a similar fashion he had destroyed Fish.

    Serve & volley: Roddick 1/1, Fish 3/8
