  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 34-28, 47-40, 38-26 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    23 % Federer – 22 of 96
    18 % Robredo – 21 of 117

It was a windy evening so both players struggled to regulate their ball toss, and there were six BP games (five breaks) in the opener, Federer [1] fought off a break point to avoid being broken for the third time serving at 5:3. In the 2nd set he failed to serve the set out at 5:4, but firmly held at 5:6 and took the tie-break 7/2. Even though Robredo [6] won five games in the 3rd set, Federer’s advantage was quite overwhelming, he finished the match holding thrice at ‘love’. Robredo was known as a player whose passing-shots weren’t the strongest part of his game, thus Federer was attacking the net more than in the latter stages of the Aussie Open comparing to his many successful appearances from 2004 onwards. Robredo’s third off seven lost major quarterfinals, at the time he was playing tennis of his life thus a semifinal seemed plausible in the near future. He was the only man in the fortnight who pushed Federer to two sets finished with “7” in the front.

    Serve & volley: Federer 4/8, Robredo 0
