  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 42-38, 26-12, 55-53, 40-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    41 % Roddick – 60 of 143
    32 % Johansson – 52 of 155

The second of [4] Roddick’s three tight 4-set wins in the Wimbledon semifinals. As opposed to other two, Roddick was very close to win a set he lost in 2005 – in the opener, in which he and Johansson [22] were glued to the baseline, the American led 4:1* and 6:4 in the tie-break – the Swede saved the first set point with a backhand winner, Roddick made a forehand error on the second set point. The Swede suffered the lack of focus at the beginning of the 2nd set which cost him dropping four games quickly (Roddick had a stretch of 14 points won in a row on serve). Sets three and four were very tight, they both were attacking the net quite frequently with solid approach shots. In the crucial second tie-break, Johansson wasted three set points (*6:5, 7:6 and 9:8) – especially the first one was painful because he was serving – made an error by a few meters on his first serve, then during a rally he was extremely conservative waiting for Roddick’s mistake, yet he was the one who made an error. Another two set points evaporated after Roddick’s powerful serves. There was 5-all in the third tie-break when Roddick was lucky – he blocked Johansson’s slice serve with his forehand, and the ball dropped on the Swede’s side after clipping the net-cord. Roddick finished the job with a service bomb down the T, celebrated on his knees. The tie-breaks: (6/8, 12/10, 7/5). # It was the second time when Roddick survived a 4-setter against Johansson on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, the previous time it occurred in different circumstances – Johansson was a favorite in 2001 having won back-to-back titles on grass, so the inexperienced Roddick snapped his 11-match winning streak on that surface. Meanwhile four years later, it was rather surprising that the Swedish veteran put up such heavy resistance against the former no. 1.

    Serve & volley: Roddick 3/3, Johansson 4/4
