   [52] Rostagno’s only major quarterfinal. Perhaps an intimidated factor played a crucial role in this contest: Lendl [1] struck the ball twice very hard towards Rostagno’s body (passing-shots) in the 1st set, and the American felt he had to risk more with his second serves to play better approach-volleys, but it led him to committing regular double faults (he was attacking the net constantly behind his serves while Lendl made only two trips to the net throughout the match). Lendl broke after 4 deuces at 2-all in the opener, and since then it was a super one-sided encounter. When they meet at Roland Garros the following year, Lendl wins with similar ease, but when the Czechoslovak reaches a veteran age, Rostagno beats him twice in their last two meetings.
