  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 42-35, 32-28 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Lendl – 22 of 63
    16 % Connors – 12 of 74

That match finished a period of years 1979-88 when Connors and Lendl were facing each other regularly, also summed up the last phase of their rivalry when Connors was unable to steal a set against the Czechoslovak. Lendl finished their H2H with 17 consecutive wins (22-13 in the end), after Toronto he won 12 sets in a row (the streak had been initiated in a super tight Key Biscayne four-setter). The ageing Connors, 36, was trying everything in the second half of the 80s as facing eight years younger Lendl, but all in vain. Their Canadian semifinal was played in a scorcher (40°C), there were 10 deuces in the first three games, Connors [6] led 2:1 after 32 minutes on serve, but he already looked spent, extending the allowed 30-second break between the points to its maximum afterwards. Lendl [1] got the deciding breaks at 3-all in each set, and being focused on big serves, and not interested in attacking the net, he claimed the 2-hour 10-minute victory with a service winner… Four years later they meet for the last time, Connors finally wins a set, but loses 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 0-6 in the US Open second round.

    Serve & volley: Lendl 0, Connors 8/13
