The 30-year-old Nieminen became the first qualifier to win an ATP event since 2009 (Sergiy Stakhovsky in St. Petersburg). Both players entered the match with lousy records in the ATP finals (Nieminen 1-10, Benneteau 0-5). The best player in history of Finnish tennis waited six years to capture his second and last title. In Sydney ’12 he played his 243rd main-level tournament.
