Points won by each set: | 26-28, 34-28, 26-15, 35-30 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
21 % Djokovic – 26 of 119
21 % Zverev – 22 of 103
In terms of the scoreline, very similar match to [6] Djokovic’s quarterfinal win over Alcaraz at this year’s Australian Open. The greatest player of all time began the evening quarterfinal in Paris slowly, he was broken in the opening game, yet quite remarkable – Zverev [3] couldn’t repeat it for another three hours! I think the most important moment of the match occurred at 1-all (15-all) in the 2nd set on Djokovic’s serve – Zverev won the rally with a backhand passing-shot winner, but twisted his left ankle a bit, I assume that some discomfort could make an impact on his poor service performance in the following game as he was broken at 30 and somehow lost the plot. In the 3rd set he looked miserable. Djokovic played 31 dropshots in total, the vast majority of them with his backhand to Zverev’s forehand – he did it also a few times in the last game, and forced an error on match point no. 5.
