  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 35-28, 33-21 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    35 % Becker – 20 of 56
    22 % Ferreira – 14 of 61

Such a beat-down was utterly unexpected because Ferreira [11] – just like a year before – was in a great shape in Autumn. In 1994 he won back-to-back titles in Basel & Tel Aviv (they were separated by a week), in 1995 he triumphed in Ostrava & Lyon in successive weeks. Becker [5] was the best indoor player for a decade though, and he confirmed once again, that when he felt all his shots well, he’d destroy very good players even on fast surfaces (the German stunned 6-1, 6-2 Ivanisevic on the same court in the 1992 semifinal). Despite the unpleasant loss, Ferreira secured his birth at Masters because he moved from no. 11 to no. 9, and took Agassi’s spot after his withdrawal. Ferreira’s another match it was Becker again, in Frankfurt (Masters) at the round robin stage the German prevailed 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 being three points away from defeat. He said afterwards: “Ferreira on a good day is very tough to beat and he was on today and I had to work very hard for that victory.”

    Serve & volley: Becker 10/20, Ferreira 0/4
