   The top servers at the time, fast surface, it was natural to expect a tight encounter, especially that Ivanisevic [4] was in a terrific form having recently claimed indoor titles in Sydney & Stockholm, but playing second successive week day-by-day (he’d played four doubles matches along with eight in singles), simply tired him, and there was 1-6, *0:4 when he finally won two games on serve at ‘love’ which was so typical for him at the time indoors. He had his break point chances in the last game of the opener, and at 0:3 in the 2nd set. Becker [9], despite a perfect performance, missed a smash in the last game, standing at the net. Becker would lose just three games again on the same court in the semifinal three years later.
