The ATP indoor tennis in Paris has moved out after 39 editions from Bercy to La Défense Arena where the courts are very slow. Sinner [2] took part in three editions in Bercy, never being successful, but in the new venue he was almost the best version of himself (he didn’t look particularly well only in the 1st set of his third round match). In the final he won the toss, elected to receive, and broke in the opening game – it was the only break of the match. Auger [10] improved his backhand this season, but it’s still a weak shot comparing to Sinner’s backhand. The Canadian was patiently waiting for his chance, and it almost appeared as he led 5:4 (deuce) in the 2nd set – he had the ball on his forehand but sent his long. Also his forehand error decided about the ensuing tie-break – he missed a lot at 2-all after Sinner’s average return. On his first match point, the Italian constructed a baseline rally like a master, finishing it with a backhand down the line winner. “It’s huge, honestly, it was such an intense final, and we both knew what was on the line. I’m extremely happy, the past couple of months have been amazing. We try to work on things and seeing this result makes me incredibly happy. Another title this year… It’s been an amazing year regardless of what comes in Turin.” said Sinner after his second title within two weeks (previously Vienna where he lost one set) which allowed him to regain the pole position in the ATP ranking by a margin of 250 points over Alcaraz.

Sinner’s route to his 23rd title:
    2 Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-2
    3 Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1
    Q Ben Shelton 6-3, 6-3
    S Alexander Zverev 6-0, 6-1 ☆
    W Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6(4)

☆ Zverev was exhausted after a night quarterfinal 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 win over Medvedev in which he saved two match points

    Serve & volley: Sinner 1/1, Auger 2/2

☆☆ Auger, who was on the verge of being eliminated in the second round as he overcame A.Müller 5-7, 7-6, 7-6
trailing *4:5 and *0:3 in successive tie-breaks, thanks to the Parisian final secured the last berth for “Masters” in Turin edging Musetti by 5 points
(Musetti found his way to play in Turin anyway thanks to Đoković’s withdrawal, Sinner & Auger faced each other again in Italy, and Sinner won 7-5, 6-1)
