   Very bizarre 2-hour 8-minute match in terms of the progress with remarkable ratio of clean winners (53) from the Frenchman – he squandered four mini-set points in the opener, leading twice 40/15 on return: at 4:2 and 4-all. There was 5-all in the tie-break when the Mallorcan (defending champion) won two points in a row. In the 2nd set Golmard [25] was serving at 3-all (0/30), hit a second serve ace, and the match miraculously turned into his favour – he won nine straight games manufacturing winners all over the place, even though needed a treatment to his right thigh at the beginning of the decider. Moya: “I never faced a guy who hit in the line so many times!”
   It’s one of two best wins in Golmard’s career (the second one will come in 2000; defeating No. 1 Andre Agassi in Toronto). Not only he beat a player, who just dropped the No. 1 spot in the world and was a reigning French Open champion then, the 25-year-old Frenchman reached his only ‘Masters 1K’ semifinal & advanced to his highest No. 22 becoming the highest ranked player from France at the time. Golmard looked like a Top 10 prospect, unfortunately an injury sidelined him for the second half of 1999 (suffered bursitis in his right knee).
