   Murray [4] reaches his first semifinal on clay. He takes advantage of the fact Davydenko earlier that day played a tough rain-interrupted match against Nalbandian (6-4, 5-7, 6-3). In the opener Murray was leading all the time (*5:3 & had double set point at 6:5) before clinching the tie-break 7/1; in the 2nd set he came back from *1:4 (30-all) despite blisters on his right hand. It was his mastery of “winning ugly” – he obtained just 10% of his points thanks to winners.

   ☆ Murray ultimately won their rivalry 6:4, it was his second win over the Russian after an identical scoreline.
