  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 40-35, 30-23 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    25 % Santoro – 14 of 56
    13 % Haas – 10 of 72

Seven years after competing his first ATP final (Toulouse), Santoro [42] could finally raise a trophy at this level (he had won 5 Challengers in the meantime). He was attacking the net behind almost each 1st serve, and could have won the opener 6-2, but wasted break points in two games. The 19-year-old Haas [67], who was playing his first ATP final, led 4:1* (30/0) in the 2nd set, but his poor returning helped Santoro to come back. At 4-all the German squandered a triple game point, and the Frenchman won the last eight points – on his first match point Haas played a very aggressive forehand return which landed nearly the sideline.

Santoro’s route to his maiden title (168th main-level event):
    1 Christophe van Garsse 6-3, 6-2
    2 Richard Krajicek 2-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4) ☆
    Q Felix Mantilla 6-1, 6-1
    S Mark Philippoussis 6-4, 6-2
    W Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-4

☆ Santoro didn’t break Krajicek (one BP), trailed 3:5 and 1:3 in the tie-breaks

    Serve & volley: Santoro 12/16, Haas 2/4
