Points won directly behind the serve:
    25 % Kratochvil – 22 of 87
    26 % Agassi – 22 of 84

Agassi [5] was more prone of losing to unheralded opponents at the beginning of events than any other great champion of the Open Era. He came to Indian Wells after winning his 50th title in Scottsdale not in the best shape – back pain & sore right thigh. Kratochvil [44], son of Czech emigrants born in Switzerland, took an opportunity of that winning tie-breaks 7/5 & 8/6. Kratochvil faced the Top 10 players 20 times in his career, and it was his only victory in those matches.
“That’s one of those matches you’re looking forward to, playing Andre in the U.S., a tournament he won last year, on center court,” Kratochvil said. “I just had a lot of courage on the big points; I went for them.” He played against Agassi a few months later in Rome, and lost 0-6, 1-6 in 43 minutes.
