   Indoor conditions, and an important match in hindsight between the two best clay-court players at the time. It was five days after their Roman final, and Kuerten took his revenge in a convincing style which certainly would help him a few weeks later during their Roland Garros final. Norman [4] started well in Hamburg, he led 2:0* (30/15), he also led with a break in the 2nd set (2:1) – then Kuerten [7] began to play in the zone, and the Swede was pretty helpless in five successive games.
