   A final of two 23-year-old players with buns who would become record holders in terms of Grand Slam appearances… Federer’s first title when he was No. 1 (in his second event with this status). He began the final in a lethargic state, being broken in the opening game, and he seemed to be surprised a bit by [32] Lopez’ level. The Spaniard was playing great tennis until *1:2 (30/15) in the 2nd set. Later on in that game, at deuce, he missed the put-away volley and somehow lost his consistency. “I really had to fight hard and I think he’s definitely going to win his first title soon,” said Federer. “He played unbelievable tennis, I thought. I played good tennis except for that first game, and he came up with some unbelievable shots, unbelievable power, great serving and he totally deserved that first set.” Apart from the opening game, Federer had no problems to hold 12 times in a row afterwards… At the time Federer led 3:0 vs Lopez in their H2H, having lost a set in their previous meeting. It was tough to expect then, that Lopez wouldn’t beat Federer even once. Ultimately Federer won that rivalry 13-0 ending it up with 13 sets won a row.
