Points won by each set: | 28-20, 43-41 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
37 % Federer – 23 of 62
35 % Murray – 25 of 70
☆ It was a time when it seemed Murray [2] would enjoy a better career than his peer Djokovic even though the Serb had already claimed his maiden Slam as opposed to the Scot. Murray had defeated Federer [1] four times in a row, three times in a row Djokovic, therefore many believed it was a matter of time he would become no. 1 in the world. I’m not sure which adjustments Federer made, but he raced to a promising start breaking at 2:1 and 5:2 having wasted a triple break point at 4:1. In the 2nd set Murray improved his serve, neither of players created a break point, and the tie-break progress refelcted the serve dominance, yet the beginning didn’t indicate it – Federer almost led 4:0 after a forehand passing-shot. Murray had two set points as a receiver, at 6:5 (service winner) and 8:7 (his good backhand passing-shot landed in the corridor). The Swiss won the breaker 10/8 after Murray’s double fault.
