    Points won by each set: | 35-29, 29-19 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    38 % Djokovic – 21 of 55
    35 % Ruud – 20 of 57

[4] Ruud’s fourth big final in his career and fourth this year (after Miami, French Open & US Open), and for the fourth time he was unable to put himself in a position to win it. It was his fourth meeting against Djokovic [8] and the fourth one in Italy. The best Norwegian in tennis history of his country still hasn’t won a set against the Serb. Ruud saved break points in two different games of the opener, he was constantly one step behind. In the 12th game he led 30/15 but lost three points in succession and the set. In the 2nd set Djokovic got a break at 2:1 and finished the event with an ace down the T equaling Federer’s record of six titles in the season-ending event. He wasn’t forced to play a deuce in his 11 service games. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know that what I hold in my mind is a huge hunger still to win trophies,” said Djokovic.

Djokovic’s route to his 90th title:
    rr Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6(4)
    rr Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-1
    rr Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(2)
    S Taylor Fritz 7-6(5), 7-6(6)
    W Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-3

    Serve & volley: Djokovic 2/2, Ruud 0

Regardless of the outcome of the Medvedev match, Djokovic had already secured pole position in his group and the semifinal meeting vs Fritz. Medvedev led 5:4 (15/0) on serve in the 3rd set, it’s extraordinary that he lost all his three round robin matches in deciding set tie-breaks (76 36 67 to Rublev and 36 76 67 to Tsitsipas)!!!
