  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 38-32, 30-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    20 % Hewitt – 14 of 70
    24 % Norman – 12 of 50

One of the last events when Norman [4] had an aura of a potential no. 1 in the world. The 19-year-old Hewitt [7] did to Norman more or less the same what he had suffered from the hands of the Swede twelve months before in the first two sets of their Aussie Open meeting. It was a good indicator of Hewitt’s progress within a year and it certainly helped him (along with defeating Kuerten in Davis Cup) to strengthen his self-confidence which ultimately pushed him to the peak of tennis pyramid that year. At 3-all he saved a break point with an ace, at 5:4 he played a superb game as a receiver and never looked back.

Hewitt’s route to his 7th title:
    1 Wayne Arthurs 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-2
    2 Andrew Ilie 6-4, 6-1
    Q Fabrice Santoro 6-4, 6-1
    S Sebastian Grosjean 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
    W Magnus Norman 6-4, 6-1

Hewitt trailed *4:5 in the 2nd tie-break against Arthurs, no break of serve in the first two sets

    Serve & volley: Hewitt 1/1, Norman 0
