Points won by each set: | 27-33, 41-33, 28-9 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
30 % Rafter – 29 of 96
13 % Lapentti – 10 of 75
An example why Rafter [4] achieved so much at the turn of 90s and 00s despite his quite limited baseline skills. For the first 50 minutes he was outplayed by a natural clay-courter Lapentti [32], but trailing 4-6, *0:2 he saved three break points with very good serves as well as another break point at 2-all. Rafter was a superb athlete capable of hanging in there with constant attacking the net as server and receiver. Lapentti passed him many times, but ultimately Rafter’s perseverance and agility at the net gained the upper hand.
