Points won by each set: | 34-22, 34-30, 21-27, 40-30 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
11 % Agassi – 14 of 119
11 % Svensson – 14 of 119
The conditions worsened comparing to the first semifinal, strong wind and a constant drizzle made it difficult to move normally. In these conditions Svensson [24] was struggling with his 1st serve, and his usual high percentage around 70% dropped below 50%. But it’s tough to say he was playing a bad match even at 1-6, 0:4 (break point) – up to that moment he lost four games having points to win them. Svensson, trying everything throughout the match, improved from 0:4 to 3:4* (40/15) and to the end, the match was quite balanced since then. In the very short 3rd set Agassi [5] lost his service thrice in a row, but began the 4th winning eight points in succession. As he led 3:2* (15/40) he shouted to the umpire “Fuck you!” but didn’t get a warning. Afterwards there was the most interesting sequence in that semifinal, Svensson held after 5 deuces (longest game), then Agassi needed one deuce. The American ultimately collected the last three games, serving at 5:3 (30-all) he delivered his first serve from an extreme position, in the following point he played his lone serve-and-volley action forcing an error of the Swede.
