   They played back-to-back French Open semifinals, and just like a year before, Kuerten [1] defeated the four years younger opponent, this time being more efficient in the forehand vs forehand exchanges. All three sets were balanced until the end stages when Kuerten took the last games from 3:4*, 4-all and 3-all respectively. At 3-all in the 3rd set, Ferrero [4] had three break points including 40/15.
