  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 26-17, 45-37 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    48 % Becker – 24 of 49
    27 % Rosset – 21 of 76

From 1991 onwards, Becker [8] was playing poorly (given his standards) for three years in the American tournaments, but reminded that he’d been the US Open ’89 champion, capturing two titles on the US soil of Summer ’94. First he triumphed in Los Angeles, and then (after an early exit in Cincinnati) he won with ease all his matches in New Haven. His last opponent, Rosset [20] had to play one more match before the final (no ‘bye’ for him in the first round), and survived two demanding encounters against Lendl & Medvedev, thus the physical factor in the heat, played a crucial role. The Swiss broke at the beginning of the 2nd set, but the German broke back right away, and put pressure on Rosset in his almost every service game afterwards. The tallest Top 100 player at the time, finally succumbed at 5-all after a typically bad choice – he chased a lob having a game point which left him with no energy to serving. “I really had a dream week here,” Becker said. “Too bad we only had two days of good sunshine.”

Becker’s route to his 41st title:
    2 Roger Smith 6-3, 6-4
    3 Andrey Chesnokov 6-3, 6-4
    Q MaliVai Washington 6-2, 6-4
    S Michael Stich 6-2, 7-5
    W Marc Rosset 6-3, 7-5
