  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 26-34, 32-20, 26-8 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    23 % Alcaraz – 18 of 78
    14 % Musetti – 10 of 68

Given Musetti’s very tough route to the final (he was at least two games away from defeat in three matches), also the fact he played one more match than Alcaraz, and above all that he isn’t physically so strong like one year younger Spaniard, it was tough to expect he’d win their second mutual final (the previous one occurred in Hamburg ’22). I was a bit surprised that Alcaraz [3] began the match in a very aggressive style instead of extending the rallies to check Musetti’s body. Alcaraz wasted a few game points to lead 2:0 and soon afterwards found himself at *1:4. The Italian managed to hold two more times, but as the 2nd set kicked off, the Spaniard already felt his baseline shots very well. Musetti [16] was trying to get a break trailing 1:5, it was a doubtful decision. Alcaraz won that game after 5 deuces, and a few minutes later it was revealed Musetti’s legs were deflated, he didn’t have enough energy for a two-hour contest. At 0:3* in the decider he took a medical time-out, but it didn’t help his sore body. In Alcaraz’s last two service games, Musetti had a problem to return casual 2nd serves of his opponent, and on the first match point he didn’t try at all to cover the court after his return, allowing Alcaraz to finish the event with a forehand winner. ”It is not the way I would have wanted to win a match,” Alcaraz said. “Thinking about Lorenzo, he has been through a tough week, played long matches. I feel sorry for him. It is one of his best results, ending up like this is not easy. Hopefully it is nothing serious and he will be 100 per cent soon.”

Alcaraz’s route to his 18th title:
    2 Francisco Cerundolo 3-6, 6-0, 6-1
    3 Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-1
    Q Arthur Fils 4-6, 7-5, 6-3
    S Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6(2), 6-4
    W Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0

    Serve & volley: Alcaraz 4/6, Musetti 0/1

    # Alcaraz saved a triple mini-match point at 5-all vs Fils in 2nd set, trailed *1:3 in 3rd set
