  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 30-23, 35-27, 37-33 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    22 % Kuerten – 21 of 92
    16 % Arazi – 15 of 93

Kuerten [2] was the best clay-court player at the turn of 90s & 00s, but such a lopsided final wasn’t anticipated (the Brazilian already led *5:2 in the 3rd set) even though he faced much lower ranked opponent. Arazi [53], know as a player who was able to raise to the occasion, took Guga to the distance in all their three previous meetings. Besides, Guga in the first months of 2001 had a terrible tie-break record. In the MC final a tie-break couldn’t be required because Guga not only dominated his opponent in basic strokes, he was also playing great dropshots throughout the final… They played against each other six matches, only three-setters (the first three ‘the best of 3’ another three ‘the best of 5’).

Kuerten’s route to his 13th title:
    1 Younes El Aynaoui 6-4, 4-6, 6-4
    2 Fernando Vicente 6-2, 6-2
    3 Tommy Haas 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-3
    Q Sjeng Schalken 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-4
    S Guillermo Coria 6-4, 6-2
    W Hicham Arazi 6-3, 6-2, 6-4
