  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 21-25, 18-8, 21-9, 24-29, 17-7 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    47 % Medjedovic – 43 of 91*
    39 % Fils – 36 of 87

Using my team-sport terminology, Fils [36] currently aspires to become a 1st league player while Medjedovic [110] to become a 2nd league player. Despite the level difference between them, Medjedovic didn’t look like someone who felt inferior; he was serving big from the start, hitting the forehand hard, and his body language was confirming his self-confidence. It could have been “5-0” but the Serbian wasted two set points in the 1st tie-break, and two match points in the 4th set tie-break making simple errors in short rallies. Especially the first tie-break made him super angry, and he devastated his racquet. After both lost tie-breaks he left the court for a toilet break to calm down. Fils also lost his temper, it happened at 0:2 in the decider: first he threw his racquet, got a warning, then he destroyed that racquet and got a *point penalty. Medjedovic converted his third match point with an ace, and celebrated lying on the court. “I can’t believe I have won this title, but it’s going to give me a lot of confidence for 2024,” Medjedovic said. “Arthur is an amazing player; he’s Top 40 for a reason, so I’m really happy.” Medjedovic earned $514,000.

    Medjedovic’s route to the title:
    rr Alex Michelsen 4-2, 4-3(3), 3-4(3), 3-4(5), 4-3(4)
    rr Abdullah Shelbayh 3-4(6), 4-2, 4-3(5), 4-2
    rr Luca van Assche 4-2, 2-4, 4-3(7), 4-1
    S Dominic Stricker 4-3(5), 2-1 ret.
    W Arthur Fils 3-4(6), 4-1, 4-2, 3-4(9), 4-1
