   The 26-year-old Schapers [188] was totally unexpected at this stage, but he stunned Becker in the second round in five sets (career-best victory, Becker was a fresh Wimbledon champion then). Edberg broke at 5-all in 2nd and 2-all in 3rd to notch a straight-set victory. Two years later, Edberg [6] drops also 9 games in his quarterfinal vs Mecir on the same court. Schapers will reach the Aussie Open quarterfinal three years later (in the first edition on hardcourts) – those two QFs are his benchmark results.
