[4] Henman’s fourth unsuccessful attempt to win a Wimbledon semifinal. On the previous three occasions he was playing against the best grass court players of the 90s, and more experienced guys (Sampras 1998-99, Ivanisevic 2001). This time the experience was on his side, but the seven years younger Hewitt [1] was clearly the best player at the time, and he was enjoying to play against serve-and-volleyers. That semifinal in 2002, turned into Hewitt’s festival of brilliant passing-shots from all corners of the court. The Australian broke his opponent twice in each set. His advantage was even more visible than the scoreline would suggest, because he already led 5:3 in sets 1 & 3… Five years later in the US Open semifinal, Federer will beat Davydenko after identical scoreline.
