    Points won by each set: | 31-23, 30-21, 58-55, 27-36, 42-35 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Noah – 63 of 182
    18 % Svensson – 32 of 176

Noah [6] squandered several break points when 20-year-old Svensson [28] was serving in games Nos. 9 & 11 of the 3rd set. In the ensuing tie-break, the Frenchman wasted 5 match points (6:5, 8:7, 9:8, 10:9, 11:10) – Svensson got the tie-break 14/12, and if he had captured the title it would have been the longest tie-break conquered trailing 0-2 in sets to win a match (!), but he blew five break points at 4-all in the decisive set. Noah earned $60.000 and Svensson got $30.000, the biggest pay-check of his career at the time. Both players received a standing ovation at the end of that incredible final from the crowd of 8.000. “It was one of my toughest matches ever,” said Noah. Svensson stated: “I thought I could not do anything after the first two sets. I should have been more aggressive in the first two sets, but I did as well as I could.”

Noah’s route to his 19th title:
    1 Jonathan Canter 6-4, 6-4
    2 Mike de Palmer 6-2, 7-6
    Q Johan Kriek 7-6(8), 6-4
    S Kevin Curren 7-5, 6-3
    W Jonas Svensson 6-2, 6-3, 6-7(12), 4-6, 7-5

Two years later, Svensson lost the Wembley final again by a two-game margin, that time losing to the in-form Hlasek 7-6(4), 6-3, 4-6, 0-6, 5-7
