   Forget [9] played five major quarterfinals, lost them all, and arguably the best shot at reaching the semifinals, he had when faced the 33-year-old McEnroe [30] on court no. 1. The Frenchman had easily won their two previous meetings, he was also ranked significantly higher. Even though he was one of the best servers at the time, he faced break points in his first five service games (being broken twice)! In the tie-break he wasted six set points (6:3, 7:6, *8:7 & 9:8), two on serve: the first one was painful because he should have finished the point with a backhand standing close to the net – sent it out; on the 2nd set point on serve, McEnroe played a forehand lob from the backhand side of his court. The American took it 11/9 on his first set point… Forget lost a major quarterfinal after the same scoreline (a shorter tie-break though) a year before in Australia.
