   Untypical scoreline for a 5-set match on grass. The quarterfinal lasted 2 hours 37 minutes, and Connors won the final four games; the crucial break at 3:2 came after a 6-deuce game. The big serving left-handed Tanner two straight years lost on Centre Court at Wimbledon to two best players of the 70s, despite leading two-sets-to-one on both occasions. A year before Borg defeated him in the final.
