The Grand Slam final of the century, it lasted 3 hours 53 minutes… The most wasted set points in a set in Grand Slam finals… in fact they were match points (seven): Borg led *5:4 (40/15) in the 4th set, another five match points he had in the tie-break (6:5, *7:6, 10:9, *11:10 & 12:11), which he ultimately lost 16/18. The Swede was close to find himself 0-2 in sets: after abysmal opener, he survived two tough games at 2-all (4 deuces) & 4-all (4 deuces again), saving four break points in total. In the final set, McEnroe saved seven break points before collapsing on eight match point.
