    Points won by each set: | 23-28, 32-23, 37-29, 40-32 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    33 % Djokovic – 40 of 119
    40 % Kyrgios – 50 of 150

Quite similar match to Djokovic’s previous Wimbledon final: he faced a ~9 years younger opponent with a powerful serve and didn’t need to seek for anything fancy, he just needed to figure out how to increase his chances to get one break each set after dropping the opener when his opponent gave his all. Against Kyrgios [40] it was a bit more difficult than against Berrettini, Djokovic [3] had met the Australian twice before, losing both matches & creating just 1 break point (!), but it was in 2017 when he was struggling with his elbow. This time nothing bothered him and finally in his sixth set against Kyrgios, he managed to break, he did it at ‘love’ at 2:1 in the 2nd set with a net-cord backhand winner – it was a crucial moment, Kyrgios lost his coolness then while the Serb began to win almost all longer rallies. Nevertheless he faced a 0/40 hole serving for the set. Afterwards he had no problems to hold, so it was only a matter of time he’d clinch his 7th Wimbledon title. In the 4th set there was 5:6 (30-all) when he won two points quickly on serve and 9 of the last 12. Despite defending his title, Djokovic dropped to no. 7 because for the first time in history of the ATP ranking (1973), the points weren’t awarded due to banning Russian players #

Djokovic’s route to his 88th title (21st major):
    W Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3)
    S Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4
    Q Jannik Sinner 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
    4 Tim van Rijthoven 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2
    3 Miomir Kecmanovic 6-0, 6-3, 6-4
    2 Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4, 6-2
    1 Soon-Woo Kwon 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

    Serve & volley: Djokovic 2/2, Kyrgios 4/12

    # Comparison of Djokovic’s two similar major finals:
    Aussie Open ’08: Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6… 3:05h… Points: 136-122
    Wimbledon ’22: Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6… 3:01h… Points: 132-112

    # Because of the Russian invasion on Ukraine, with the help of Belarus (February ’22), all “Bela-Russian” players were banned, as many as 5 guys of the Top 50 (Russians: Medvedev – 1, Rublev – 8, Khachanov – 22, Karatsev – 42 and Belarusian – Ivashka no. 44). The child of Russian parents, no. 2 in the world Sasha Zverev of Germany, has been sidelined since his serious injury in the French Open semifinal. Just before the event two former finalists (Berrettini – 11 and Cilic – 17) had to withdraw due to Covid infection, the same did a former semifinalist Bautista [19] after winning his 1R match. The ’22 event was also deprived of the 8-time champion, last year’s quarter-finalist Federer [97] who participated in all editions of the years 1999-2021! Because of this all, the field was the weakest since 1973 when the majority of Top 100 players boycotted it.
