  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 33-35, 39-35, 41-39, 23-30, 81-74 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    44 % Federer – 88 of 197
    41 % Roddick – 98 of 239

The most games (77) and the most aces (77) in a major final (Open Era). Previous record as far as games are concerned: 66 – Arthur Ashe d. Tom Okker 14-12, 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 (US Open ’68)… Roddick, having lost to Federer their three previous matches on Centre Court at Wimbledon, had been playing better than anyone expected and an upset hung in the air as he led *6:2 in the 2nd set tie-break (with his powerful serve almost impossible to lose such a big advantage, but once before he had lost a deciding set tie-break to Enqvist leading 5:1 in a 3-6, 7-6, 6-7 match)… The first of that quadruple set point was the most important – Federer hit a backhand winner thanks to his amazingly flexible wrist. At *6:5 Roddick missed a high backhand volley from a position he should have won the point, nerves overwhelmed him. He squandered two mini-MPs at 9-all in the 5th set (service winner & forehand volley). He was broken once in the last game of the final – lost three straight points in the end with ground-stroke errors. “It was a crazy match and my head is still spinning,” said Federer. # Roddick’s second similar defeat at Wimbledon, I mean he succumbed a five-setter winning more standard games & being within a few points of winning all sets he lost.

Federer’s route to his 60th title (15th major – new record at the time):
    1 Yen-Hsun Lu 7-5, 6-3, 6-2
    2 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-2, 6-4
    3 Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1
    4 Robin Soderling 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-6(5)
    Q Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 7-5, 7-6(3)
    S Tommy Haas 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-3
    W Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 16-14

    Serve & volley: Federer 4/6, Roddick 0/1

    # Comparison of Roddick’s three similar defeats at Wimbledon (in parentheses points away from winning sets he lost):
    2007 (QF): Gasquet d. Roddick 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 8-6… 3 hours 34 minutes… Total points: 182-167… (5, 2, 6)… Breaks: 2-3
    2009 (F): Federer d. Roddick 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14… 4 hours 16 minutes… Total points: 223-213… (1, 3, 5)… Breaks: 1-2
    2010 (4R): Yen-Hsun d. Roddick 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 9-7… 4 hours 36 minutes… Total points: 196-199… (1, 3, 6)… Breaks: 1-1
