# The third and last Grand Slam quarterfinal between these two players, their fourth consecutive 3-0 match at majors. In contrast to two previous quarterfinals, Ancic couldn’t do anything in Federer’s service games. The Swiss was controlling the final outcome from the beginning to the end (finished with three straight aces) with great serves & forehands, he didn’t need to run to the net; in Ancic’s service games Federer [1] was efficiently using short returns & Ancic’s couldn’t deal with them trying to respond with half-volleys. The only interesting sequence of that boring encounter took place in the opening game of the 3rd set when the Croat held after 9 deuces (18 minutes). In the aftermath of the event the 24-year-old Ancic [47] began struggling with injuries, never came back to Centre Court at majors and finished his career two years later.
