Points won by each set: | 35-29, 31-21, 36-31 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
41 % Hewitt – 37 of 89
30 % Lopez – 29 of 94
A more natural grass-court player Lopez didn’t even win a set in that 2-hour meeting. At the time Hewitt was still among the best players in the world, thus his self-confidence was very high and it was reflected at the end of all three sets when he stepped up – he easily broke at 6:5 & 5:4 in the first two sets while the tie-break he took 7/2 (winning the longest rally of the match to lead 4:1).
