In the opening set Siemerink squandered 3 set points at 6:5* and another three at 6:3 in the tie-break. Boetsch led *7:6 when he lost the point as the netcord helped the Dutchman, who eventually took it 9/7. The 26-year-old Siemerink was in a great shape at the time, two weeks after losing the Vienna final (to Boris Becker in four sets) he reached his only ‘Mercedes Super 9’ semifinal, in Stuttgart.
