  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 39-33, 47-42, 29-34, 12-26, 40-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Kafelnikov – 54 of 158
    46 % Krajicek – 82 of 178

3 hours 20 minutes… Krajicek wasn’t closer than three points away from winning each of the three sets he lost. He was struggling in his first three service games of the 3rd set, then won 10 out of the next 11 games! In the last tie-break he trailed 2:6*, at 3:6 fired 2 aces, and the Russian finished the contest with an ace! He broke the Dutchman’s serve only once – trailing 4:5 in the opener. As I write it in 2014, Krajicek’s 49 aces (10, 15, 6, 6, 12) it’s still a US Open record.

Seventh (and the last, for the time being) match in history, in which the victor 3 of 5 sets won in tie-breaks.
