  1. Voo de Mar says:
Stat of the first three sets only… Match on YouTube (German commentary, lack of 1.5 sets)

In the 1st set Jarryd was serving at 5:6 (0/30). The Americans saved a match point at 4:5 on Seguso’s serve (in the 4th set), and two more at 4:5 on his serve in the decider. Edberg finished the 3-hour 44-minute contest with an ace. Broken players: 2 – Flach, 2 – Jarryd
”It was a very good workout, that’s for sure,” said Edberg, who lost his singles semifinal vs Wilander afterwards “I felt a little bit tight in the third set, but now I feel good. I mean, we won. That makes me feel good.”

    Edberg/Jarryd’s route to the title:
    1 Tarango / Wheaton 6-2, 6-4
    2 Krishnan / Schapers 6-3, 6-2
    3 Aerts / Siegel 7-5, 4-6, 6-1
    Q Lozano / Witsken 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
    S Casal / E.Sanchez 6-4, 6-4, 6-0
    W K.Flach / Seguso 7-6(1), 6-2, 4-6, 5-7, 7-6(2)

The Swedes also won Australian Open that year, Jarryd became the 1987 French Open champion, partnering… Seguso.
After the US Open triumph, Edberg decided to switch his focus mainly to the singles competitions. In 1988 he didn’t bother to participate in doubles events at majors…
