  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 38-41, 30-22, 39-40, 26-33, 28-24 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    18 % Mecir – 29 of 160
    36 % Becker – 59 of 161

Interesting match between two young players: 22 y.o. Mecir [15] and three years younger Becker [3], who was already a double Wimbledon champion. The German committed 6 double faults in his first three service games, but was broken once. Mecir had to save break points at the beginning of each set he won, in the mid-set he survived the first two service games with the help of seven deuces (3 & 4 respectively).

    # Comparison of their two five-setters:
    US Open ’86 (SF): Mecir d. Becker 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3… 3 hours 18 minutes… Total points: 161-160
    Aus Open ’90 (4R): Becker d. Mecir 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1… 3 hours 49 minutes… Total points: 164-133
