    When they’d met three weeks before, in the Cincinnati semifinal, Lendl stunned Connors 6-1, 6-1! In the 3rd set of the US Open ’82 final, Connors [3] led 3:1* (30/0), then squandered two mini-match points at 4-all. The first two sets weren’t as easy for him as the score would suggest – he lost the opening game of the match on serve, at 5:3 he was 0/30; in the 2nd set Lendl [2] had two game points trailing 2:4, in the following game he led 40/15 on Connors’ serve.
